Free and open source software for mathematical modeling
The paper provides a brief overview of free and open source software used for mathematical modeling of complex phenomena governed by equations of continuum mechanics. All components including in the integrated environment for predictions are considered: grid generators, systems for processing and visualizing the results with emphasis on packages for solving differential equations involving in the basic mathematical models of mechanics. There are also considered the concept of free software and the basic types of licenses.
