Kinetic derivation of new form of Stefan-Maxwell relations and anisotropic transport coefficients for partially ionized gases in an external magnetic field
Abstract:
By the kinetic theory methods, the determining relationships for the thermodynamic fluxes of diffusion and heat in a multicomponent partially ionized gas mixture in an external electromagnetic field are obtained. Generalized Stefan-Maxwell relations and algebraic equations correlated with diffusion-thermal processes for anisotropic transport coefficients (in particular, the coefficients of multicomponent diffusion, thermal diffusion, electrical and thermoelectric conductivity, and thermodiffusion ratios) are derived. The determining equations of the second order are derived by the procedure Chapman-Enskog with the use expansions of Sonin polynomial. The ratios for the velocities of electron-ion diffusion are used to describe ambipolar diffusion in an ionospheric plasma with a strong magnetic field.
