Modern industry of LCD displays and other similar optical devices uses advanced materials and technologies. This article presents developed software system which supports straight through simulation of such complex lighting devices. Procedures and tools to define simulated optical scenes are described, such as procedural representation and surface and texture generators. Concept of OPTOS (OPTical ObjectS) is introduced that extends optical simulation software with means for modeling of light propagation through materials with volume scattering properties, surfaces with micro-relief, complex polarization filters (DBEF). Mechanisms for analysis of simulation results (observers) that display information both in numerical and graphical form are also described.
