The damped-driven 2D Navier—Stokes system on large elongated domains
Abstract:
The Navier--Stokes system with damping, which is motivated by Stommel--Charney model of ocean circulation, is considered in a large elongated periodic rectangular domain with area of the order $\alpha^{-1}$, as $\alpha\to0$. We obtain estimates for the dimension of the global attractor that are sharp as both $\alpha\to0$ and $\nu\to0$, where $\nu$ is the viscosity coefficient.
