A collection of works by Russian and Belarusian scientists reveals new sides of science and technology, the path to which was opened by interdisciplinary approaches and, in particular, the theory of self-organization, or synergetics. This field extends from artificial intelligence systems to new approaches to education, from electoral statistics to planning the development of settlement systems. The main vectors of all these approaches were once defined by the director of the RAS Institute of Applied Mathematics, RAS corresponding member Sergey P. Kurdyumov. He considered synergetics as a bridge between the natural sciences and the humanities over the abyss of mutual misunderstanding. According to him, dialogue between natural scientists and mathematicians and philosophers who can introduce ideas of nonlinear dynamics into culture and mass consciousness is very important. Following this approach, the collection presents profound and important works by a number of philosophers. In this article, I give an overview of the ideas discussed in the collection “Designing the Future. Problems of Digital Reality”. This work represents the 8th is-sue of the series of books with this title, published annually by the RAS Keldysh In-stitute of Applied Mathematics. The previous 7 issues aroused great interest among readers and became important milestones in the development of self-organization theory. It can be expected that this collection will continue this tradition.
