Internet for the visually impaired: Russian GOST and practice
Abstract:
The W3C consortium pays attention to the issues of Internet accessibility for people with disabilities in the format of the WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) recommendations. GOST R 52872-2019 has been developed in Russia, based on WCAG recommendations. The paper considers the requirements of this GOST for the presentation of textual information on the website. GOST assumes that alternative versions for the visually impaired will appear on the websites of organizations, allowing you to configure the appropriate site settings. Examples of the implementation of alternative versions are given. At the same time, basic technologies aimed at a wide range of Internet users also offer advanced special tools for configuring websites for people with health restrictions. For example, Yandex browser, in addition to special site settings, offers users tools based on artificial intelligence technologies. The development of special tools included in the basic technologies is a promising direction. But alternative versions of websites can also occupy their niche, offering more visual and convenient tools.
